At this special service, sung by the renowned Cathedral Choir, the Cathedral will receive and bless the Global Pandemics Touchstone, honoring New Yorkers who succumbed to COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS and those who knew and cared for them. Prior to the service, members of NYC Walk to Remember will physically pull the touchstone on its 3-mile route to the Cathedral, from the former Mount Sinai Coronavirus Field Hospital to 110th Street. The touchstone will remain at the Cathedral until May 30, when it will be laid in the potter's field at Hart Island.

This Walk to Remember offers a way to come together as a city to pay our respects, not only to those who died from contagious disease, but also those first responders, medical personnel, and essential workers who gave and risked their lives and well-being during the overwhelming crisis that rocked our world. All are welcome to take part in the Choral Evensong service concluding the day of remembrance and hope.

The Walk to Remember and Global Pandemics Touchstone are co-sponsored by the Hart Island Touchstone Coalition, The Peace Abbey Foundation, The Life Experience School, Quakers on the Move, The Hart Island Project and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
