National Memorial Service and Fauré's Requiem

Tuesday, November 2, 2021
6:45 PM - 9 PM
Nave

On the evening of All Souls Day, November 2, at the culmination of the days of Lamentation, Thanksgiving, and Hope, the Cathedral’s renowned choir, led by Director of Music Kent Tritle, will present Gabriel Fauré’s evocative Requiem, adding the power of music to soothe and comfort to the weekend-long series of gatherings. The performance will begin at 6:45 pm.

Following the Requiem at 7:30 pm, the Cathedral will host a National Memorial Service, speaking to the depths of grief New Yorkers and people across the country have experienced. Speakers will include Thomas Lynch, poet, essayist, and funeral director, whose reflections on mortality have helped millions come to terms with their own lives.

Clifton Daniel III, Dean of the Cathedral, will officiate this service.

This service is part of our three-day series dedicated to the toll of COVID-19, Lamentation, Thanksgiving, and Hope. Together, we will mourn the dead and honor those who have cared for the sick through three days of worship services, art installations, and public events at the Cathedral. For more information and the full lineup of services planned in this series, see here.

The Cathedral requires all visitors to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to attend in-person, indoor services. Masks are required at all times while inside the Cathedral. For our full COVID-19 policy, please see here.
