Caleidoscópio! Unsung Voices from Portugal
7:30 PM - 9 PM
Rose of the Compass & Parthenia
Cathedral Choir of St. John the Divine
Kent Tritle, Nina Stern & Raymond Nagem, music directors
Come to sunny Portugal for an exploration of rarely heard works, including the remarkable 13th century female-voiced Cantigas de Amigo, symphonies of the converso Jewish heiress Isabella Duarte, as well as sacred and secular works of the 16th century by composer Vicente Lusitano. This delightful program rings, as Fernandes’s “Tane Gil tu tamborino” notes—with tambourine, flutes, pipes, rabel (stringed instruments) and ends with a Fiesta!
This concert is underwritten by a generous grant from Lois and Richard Pace.
Please note, the Cathedral requires proof of vaccination to attend liturgical, non-liturgical, and ticketed events. All attendees and/or ticketholders must be fully vaccinated (received the final dose at least 14 days before the performance date). At check-in, ticketholders will be required to show proof of full vaccination (the NYS Excelsior Pass or a hard copy or photo of the vaccination card and a valid ID).
