Named after the Latin word for "dove," symbol of love and peace, a columbarium is a dignified space where niches are placed to house the ashes of the deceased, where they may be honored and remembered. The Cathedral's Columbarium is open to all people. Its more than 500 vaults, covered with the warm hues of Rojo, Amber and Carrera marble, are situated under two great stained glass windows depicting Old and New Testament scenes. The Chapel of St. Ansgar, where most vaults and niches are located, provides a quiet meditation space for those visiting the Columbarium and also a suitable place for memorial services preceding committals.
Currently, spaces in the Columbarium are not available. The Cathedral is studying options for expansion and will post any updates on this page when the situation changes.
