Journey to the Middle Ages

Explore the historic role cathedrals played as centers of culture, worship, art, music and science. Discover how St. John the Divine is like a medieval cathedral. Optional Hands-on Activity: Create a brass rubbing of Pilgrim's Pavement.

Medieval Arts Workshop

Discover the arts of the Middle Ages and cathedral building.  Carve a block of limestone, create an illuminated letter, design a "stained glass" collage, weave on a loom, make a brass rubbing, and sculpt a clay gargoyle.

This program addresses the following New York State Learning Standards:

English Language Arts - 1, 3, 4   Social Studies - 2      Arts - 1, 2, 3, 4
