Visiting Choirs

Information for Visiting Choirs
Creating opportunities for visiting choirs to perform at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine is an important and valued part of our musical ministry. Please see the occasions below when visiting choirs are engaged at the Cathedral.

It’s Sunday: Choral Recital
Choirs are invited to apply to sing in a choral recital following Sunday Choral Evensong in December through February. The Cathedral Choir sings evensong. The choral recital consists of a 30-minute program of sacred music that is a cappella or with organ. The use of a piano is not available. The concert begins following choral evensong at approximately 5 pm. Choirs are requested to sit in the Great Choir throughout evensong. Post-evensong recitals are regarded as an integral part of the liturgical offering. If interested in this opportunity, please e-mail Bryan Zaros for an application. Please indicate your preferred date of visitation and two alternate dates.

Sunday Summer Worship
Liturgical Choirs are invited to apply to sing for Cathedral services during the summer months. Please note that visiting choirs will join the Cathedral Choir when they are invited for a service at the Cathedral. Choirs should arrive by 9:30 am for the 11 am Eucharist and 2:30 pm for 4 pm Evensong. The Director of Music will have to approve all music. If interested in this opportunity, please e-mail Bryan Zaros for an application. Please indicate your preferred date of visitation and two alternate dates.

Choir Sings
The Cathedral also offers informal opportunities for choirs to perform in our grand space on weekdays. For more information on Choir Sings, please visit this page.
