Gifts of Stocks or Securities

Donating appreciated stocks or securities to the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine is sometimes more advantageous than gifts of cash. Here’s why:

1. You avoid paying capital gains taxes when you contribute appreciated securities directly to the Cathedral. 
2. You deduct the full value of the stock as a charitable contribution, saving income tax and lowering the effective cost of your gift.
3. The full value of your gift of securities helps the Cathedral and its programs while you receive a substantial tax break. 

You may ask your financial advisor to transfer stock gifts electronically.  If you do, please notify us directly or request that your broker do so, providing your name, the name of the contributed stock, the number of shares and the date of transfer.  The Cathedral’s DTC Clearing Number is 0418; the account number is 333-74019-1-7-511 and the account name is The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine.
