Questions & Answers
- How long will the sidewalk be closed on the north side of 110th Street?
The sidewalks will be closed for the duration of construction. The estimate of 22-24 months has not changed since the inception of construction in March 2007. The construction fence is for the safety of the public and is required by the Buildings Department. We will post updates if part of the fence is scheduled to be removed.
- Why is there a break in the fence east of Amsterdam Avenue?
The break in the fence is in response to the Department of Transportation's request that some parking on 110th Street be retained. The developer's work trailers will be placed in that portion of the sidewalk.
- Will the open space on the campus be reduced?
There will be no reduction in useable open space. The Pulpit Green and Biblical Garden will not be affected. While there will no longer be a play area on the southeast corner, there will be a new state-of-the-art play area just south of the Cathedral nave. A newly designed garden will also be built between the residential building and Diocesan House.
Future plans for the North Site call for any new building to be placed close to 113th street, where currently there is a large metal shed and parking lot. A new open public space will be built between the Cathedral Nave and any new building. On the east end there will be a public terrace overlooking Morningside Park
- What will happen to the collapsed retaining wall on 110th Street?
The retaining wall, a portion of which collapsed several years ago, will be replaced all along 110th Street.
- Parking in the Building
Zoning requires that new buildings provide parking for half of the residences. There will only be one entrance/exit. The parking will be reserved for tenants of the building and, when spaces are available, visitors to the Close.
