Duke Ellington wrote and performed one of his Three Sacred Concerts at the Cathedral in 1968. Ellington lived nearby, and the Cathedral was a sanctuary of central importance in his life. Organized by Jessye Norman as a homage to Duke Ellington, the 2009 concert comprises excerpts from the magnificent Three Sacred Concerts. The evening will feature Jessye Norman with a jazz ensemble, string quartet, gospel choir and a dancer.
