The Cathedral of St. John the Divine embraces the celebration of life through the arts. Visiting choirs and instrumental groups are welcome to perform in this soaring architectural symphony of stone and glass.
An Overview
- Performances can be scheduled Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, by availability.
- The Cathedral is open to the public. Therefore, tours and other programs may be happening simultaneously in the Cathedral during your performance.
- A Yamaha Concert Grand CF III is available.
- Buses may park FREE in front of the Cathedral.
- There is no required dress code.
- Recording devices must be battery powered, as there is no access to electrical outlets.
- The Cathedral does not permit use of its organ.
- Any advertising must be done independently through the visiting group.
- Please bring your own music stands, as the Cathedral cannot supply them.
- Instruments and music stands, including rental items, must accompany the group at all times and cannot be delivered to the Cathedral.
Arrangements and Fees
- Choir performances are half-an-hour in length. Additional time may be arranged.
- Instrumental performances are one hour in length, with half-an-hour allotted both before and after the performance for set-up and strike.
- A cappella choir performances cost $250.00 per half-an-hour. There is an additional fee of $50.00 for use of the piano.
- Instrumental performances cost $1,200.00 for group's two-hour program. There is a 40-performer limit for instrumental groups.
- Fees are payable upon receipt of the Event Confirmation Letter.
- Repertoire and seating arrangement will need to be approved in advance of the performance, and can be emailed to mweir@stjohndivine.org.
Upon Arrival
- Groups are requested to arrive at least 10 minutes early and must check in at the Cathedral's Visitor Center immediately upon arrival.
- Please arrive dressed and ready to perform, as the Cathedral does not provide a dressing room or a warm-up space.
- Groups are welcome to use the first few minutes of their performance time for warm-up, but cannot do so in the Cathedral space prior to their scheduled time due to midday programs and liturgical services.
