The Cathedral and Alwan for the Arts are pleased to present Hamid Al-Saadi, one of Iraq's foremost purveyors of the revered Iraqi maqam tradition, with his ensemble, Al-Chalghi Al-Baghdadi, in their first US tour. Alwan is honored to bring this group from Baghdad as part of its commitment to present the arts and culture of the Arab world to audiences in New York and around the United States.
This concert is presented concurrently with the Cathedral's Holy Land Program, a series of conversations, courses, and multimedia experiences bringing together the people of the three Abrahamic faiths. Click here to learn more.
About Alwan for the Arts
Since 1998, Alwan has played a leading role in promoting the diverse cultures of the Middle East in New York and the tri-state metropolitan area. Alwan’s inaugural activities entailed screening evocative films in academic settings. These screenings evolved into a film festival that soon became the largest event of its kind outside of the Middle East. Since its founding, Alwan has continually expanded its programming, which now includes concerts, dance performances, academic book talks, poetry readings, panel discussions, theatrical performances, visual arts exhibits, as well as educational offerings in language, dance, and music. Alwan has grown into a cultural and aesthetic hub, curating up to 100 events each year. For more information and to see Alwan's upcoming events, click here.
Tickets: $40 adults; $25 seniors, students and Alwan for the Arts members with discount code.
