Traditional and Sacred Music of Armenia
The Cathedral Choir, under the direction of Kent Tritle, will be joined by Nina Stern, recorders and chalumeau; Ara Dinkjian, oud; Glen Velez, percussion; Tamer Panarbasi, kanun; and Arthur Fiacco, cello.

A pre-concert lecture will be presented in the Great Choir at 6:45 pm by renowned ethnomusicologist Şahan Arzruni. A scholar and artist of striking versatility, he has toured throughout the world as a pianist, lecturer, composer, producer, and broadcast personality (including playing the role of straight man for Victor Borge's musical programs). Motivated by ethnic awareness in the United States, Arzruni continuously researches the musical roots of his Armenian heritage. He has performed on and produced several CD anthologies of Armenian music, delivered papers and organized symposia for such institutions as Harvard and Columbia, and authored scholarly books and articles for academic journals as well as The New Grove Dictionary and The Dictionary of the Middle Ages. In 2003, Mr. Arzruni was appointed a representative of Armenia's Ministry of Culture in the Diaspora. He holds degrees from The Juilliard School and has pursued doctoral studies at New York University.
