A Cathedral Christmas Concert
The Cathedral’s Choir of Girls, Boys, and Adults, together with the American Classical Orchestra and harpist Anna Reinersmann, offers an evening that will heighten spirits and will put everyone in the mood for the holiday season at their annual Christmas concert. The Choir’s rich medley of voices – young and mature – is likely to cause the very stones of the Cathedral to vibrate in time to the music. This year, the Choir will treat listeners to Dancing Day by John Rutter, a showcase piece for the trebles and harp, and Part One and Hallelujah of G. F. Handel’s masterpiece, Messiah.
The American Classical Orchestra (Thomas Crawford, founder and director) will accompany the choir in its performance of Messiah, and the soloists will be Arlene Travis, soprano; Patrick Fennig, counter-tenor; John Shankweiler, tenor; and Andrew Martens, bass. The American Classical Orchestra, based in New York City, is one of the country's most renowned early music ensembles, having garnered several recent rave reviews for its concerts.
Dancing Day will feature the upper voices of the choir accompanied by Anna Reinersmann on the harp. Ms. Reinersmann, a perennial favorite of New York City audiences, returns to the Cathedral after a series of successful performances last season of Benjamin Britten's A Ceremony of Carols, after which the Rutter work is patterned.
